These pants came to be after conducting a pretty cool experiment: Showers Pass sent out a group of cyclists out on a ride, each wearing a pair of white long johns. After riding in the wet and muddy conditions they came back with sections of their once-white long johns completely covered, but then other sections we're still white. What did this show Showers Pass? Some areas of cycling tights/pants need more protection and some need less, some need more flexibility and others don't. And so the story goes, the Roadie Pant was created.

To be a bit more specific, the Roadie Pant is a 3-season pant/tight that will keep you dry with the help of eVent waterproof fabric and waterproof zippers, keep you warm with the help of softshell fabric technology, and keep you comfortable with Lycra inserts at high movement places. You'll find the eVent fabric on the thigh and lower leg, which are defined as the the main areas that are going to get wet when you're pedaling a bike, and then taped at the eVent fabric/waterproof softshell fabric intersection to keep the seam from leaking. The side panels, along the outside and back of your thigh, aren't areas that get hit by rain when you're riding in the the rain, so they're not areas that need to be covered in waterproof fabric. Those areas need to flex and move with you're legs when you're pedaling -- so naturally, they're made of stretchy material.
