Short Sleeve Jersey Information
Short sleeve cycling jerseys are the most versatile type of biking shirt because they can be worn in a variety of weather conditions. Those who are apt to forget sunscreen or lose track of time can relax, because the shoulders are always protected from sun. Some fabrics even integrate UV protection into the construction of the material. Arm warmers can easily be slipped on when the weather gets chilly. Various weights of base layers can be worn underneath to keep the skin dry; these work with the jersey to have an insulating or cooling effect. Lightweight, moisture-wicking fabrics that often have antibacterial properties are used in jersey construction.
Three rear pockets are a trademark of bike jerseys. Because the back pockets keep food, keys, and spare tubes close at hand, many cyclists wear a short sleeve jersey under a cycling jacket just to take advantage of extra storage space. A full length zipper or hidden zipper allows for enough ventilation even on the warmest days.
Short sleeve jerseys are cut to complement the riding position. A longer back provides coverage when the body is bent over to reach the handlebars. Raglan sleeves eliminate unnecessary stitching on the shoulder and allow for a full range of motion in the upper extremities. Men’s and Women’s short sleeve jerseys are available in different cuts to meet the needs of various body types and riding styles. A next-to-skin fit is the most aerodynamic and is often used by road cyclists. A club cut is more generously fitted to provide a little more room for the everyday rider. Mountain biking jerseys often come in a casual, looser cut that looks more like street-wear, but still incorporates quick-drying fabrics. Some brands even offer plus size jerseys.
Short sleeve jerseys are a mainstay in most cyclists wardrobe because they help regular body temperature, provide a fit that is comfortable on the bike, and have back pockets for stashing food and other ride necessities. With sizes ranging from XXS to 4X, all riders can rest assured that there are plenty of options that fit and feel great!
