Bib Tights Information
Cycling bib tights have all of the fabulous advantages of bib shorts, but in a longer, warmer version made for cold weather riding. Instead of a waistband, the tights are held up by two bib straps. The smooth, seamless fabric of the shorts extends higher around the abdomen. The lack of a waistband feels completely free!
Winter bib tights are made of thermal fabric that traps warm air next to the skin. Form-fitting material effectively picks up moisture from the skin and transports it to the outside. This keeps your skin warm and dry. The thermal fabric hugs the abdomen to help insulate the core. Some cold weather bibs tights feature windproof panels on the outside of the legs to add water resistance and extra protection in cold weather. Windproof bib tights or thermal bib tights, the bib straps are soft next to the skin, and are often worn over a base layer in winter. Some bib tights have zippered closures at the ankles with elastic grippers or feature a stirrup foot strap. Both keep the hem from riding up on the leg.
Padded bib tights have a soft, seamless chamois insert for comfort in the saddle. Non-padded bibs are versatile because they can be worn over your favorite shorts, and do not necessarily have to be washed after each use. Women’s bib tights differ from men’s bib tights in the way the straps are configured. Also, they sometimes feature clasps in the bib straps that allow the tights to be lowered without removing upper layers. This makes cold-weather restroom stops a lot more tolerable!
Jump into a pair of bib tights -- the coziest and warmest piece of cycling apparel -- and take the winter head (legs) on!
