Castelli Bib Shorts Information
Cruising along in the the paceline, you are bound to see the familiar Castelli scorpion logo gracing the bike shorts of the rider in front of you. Castelli bib shorts are popular in the peloton for a couple of reasons: they are always one of the most comfortable choices, and they look amazing!
Castelli claims to have pioneered the chamois pad (imagine: life without a chamois!) and today the brand is still a leader in chamois insert innovation. Their highest end chamois has a double layer that features gel-like padding under your sit bones and perineum and a soft layer that feels buttery next to your skin. All of Castelli pads use varying densities and a high degree of stretch to perfectly conform to your body through the pedal stroke. On men’s Castelli bib shorts, the soft, stretchy bib straps lie on the outside of the chest, which frees the chest area, lessens irritation on the shoulders, and prevents chafing. Women’s Castelli bib shorts have straps that are angled to be comfortable on the outside of the chest. Castelli leg grippers are wide, doubled-over fabric that have silicone on the inside to keep them in place. The wide design does not pinch legs and avoids the dreaded “sausage leg”.
The fabrics used in Castelli bibs are some of the most advanced in the field. The most form-fitting models are constructed of lightweight, silky material that is barely noticeable next to your skin. Power stretch lycra is often used in the body of the shorts, because it has an excellent rate of stretch-and-return and is moisture-wicking. Some bib shorts feature abrasion resistant panels around the saddle area and others use insulated materials to make insulated bib shorts. Castelli bibs come in basic black, but many of their designs have different colored fabric panels, contrast stitching, and signature logos. For a completely put-together look, pair your Castelli bibs with a matching Castelli jersey, cycling cap and socks.
